A little Education–Visit #2–Bin Tinah

Today was time for a little more education as we headed to the big dome on the Corniche where an exhibit on Bin Tinah greeted us inside.  This is an island with endangered turtles and other wildlife on it and Abu Dhabi is trying to get it voted on as one of the new 7 Wonders of the World.

There were some replica animals inside and a replica of the Bin Tinah island:

Then we saw the highlight of the exhibit – a Sea Turtle.  They swim faster than I would think:

After watching a video about Bin Tinah, I asked the kids to tell me a few things they learned:

  • The sex of a Baby Turtle is determined by the temperature of the sand.
  • Turtles will dig three holes and bury their egg in one in order to camouflage where it is hidden.
  • There are 5,000 – 7,000 in the UAE waters.
  • One in 1,000 make it to adulthood.
